The first snow has fallen (in Toronto at least) so I think it’s time to let you in on a little winter secret - the puffer coat. It is the weapon to keep your fall or light winter coats in business throughout the brutal winter months.  Let’s be real, it gets frigid in Toronto during the winter and  sometimes wrapping ourselves in a parka makes us look like walking sleeping bags.  On days when the sun is shining, owning a little puffer can make all the difference.

Even though I get carried away with buying super cute and fashionable coats, they never seem to cut it for cold winters. This is where the puffer changed my fashion life for the better. If you just throw a puffer underneath these cute and stylish coats, the combo is sure to keep you warm and looking stylish!

When it comes to picking a puffer, there are a few things you have to keep in mind:

One - the colour. You want to make sure it’s a colour that goes with all of your coats. I prefer black, but grey and white will probably do the job as well. Also, if your coats are all black and you want to throw in a pop, you can always grab a statement colour!

Two- puffiness. Remember: you are wearing this under a jacket, so don’t get carried away with a coat that has to much puff in it.

Three - the fluff. You want it to keep you warm. Make sure you look at what material the puffer is filled with. For me: down is ideal - try to stay away from polyester and synthetic fills - they do not insulate as well.
