What to consider when picking out an everyday winter boot

I am usually someone who is all about save save save, but when it comes to a good pair of everyday winter boots, I am one to spend a little more. Living in the super temperamental Toronto, a good pair of winter boots are key to getting through the winter. Here are a few key categories to keep in mind when buying a pair of winter boots:
1. Warmth You want a pair of boots that will keep your toes nice and warm. Make sure it has a nice lining or a thick sole so the cold doesn’t creep in. Ugg’s carry a great chelsea boot that is lined with sheep skin, definitely check it out if warmth is what you're looking for. Here's a tip - if your boots aren't keeping your feet warm, try picking up a sheep skin insole to line your boot with. This is an amazing way to add some insulation to your boots.

2. Grip Grip is also very important - it may not make the most difference on dry days or in the fresh snow, but when it starts to get slushy or icy, you will definitely need some grip. Blundstones are great for grip! Tip: if you have a small foot you will probably be able to fit in the child sizes. Get the look and save!

3. Water resistance Speaking of slush, make sure your boot is water resistant. Thick leathers usually do a good job and a nice rubber boot is great as well. For a few years, I wore Hunter boots with a fleece insert. Not the warmest option but great for when the snow turned to slush. You want to stay away from most textiles, they are much more likely to let the water seep in.

4. Style And of course, style. You want to pick up a boot that encompasses all the above traits while still looking sharp. Right now Doc Martens would be my boot of choice - it has the perfect blend of warmth, grip, water resistance and of course is super trendy. A ton of other companies carry stylish and durable winter boots. The ones listed above are great options as well!
